About Down West

The kind of indie music that could only be grown in Southern California — pop, rock and country-flavored songs, stripped down to their essence, with a hint of Latin flavor.

Down West developed their sound playing Northeast Los Angeles street festivals, and later local bars. Theo Waddell's cajon-plus setup is the perfect match for Steve Stanard's hard-played acoustic guitar-driven songs, punctuated with harmonica melodies. From the urban folk-rock of "Metal Bird" to the apocalyptic walking vibe of "2015," Down West brings a bar-band sensibility to acoustic music.

Four Down West songs were featured in the recent PBS film, "A CONCRETE RIVER: Reviving the Waters of Los Angeles." Down West began releasing one new song per month starting in early 2017.
